EMC Shielding Solutions

Modern electronic systems pack more high-speed circuitry into less space than ever, and every one of them has to coexist with the electromagnetic environment around it. Our range of EMC shielding products protects sensitive electronics from electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI), and keeps emissions from your own equipment within the limits your programme has to meet.

EMC shielding solutions combine proven materials science with application-specific engineering to solve interference problems at the enclosure, board and cable level. Available in franchised, traceable product lines and qualified to key military and commercial EMC standards including MIL-STD-461, MIL-DTL-83528 and EN 61000, they’re specified for mission-critical land, sea, air and space applications as well as demanding industrial and commercial electronics.

Whether you’re sealing a housing seam against RF leakage, managing heat dissipation without compromising shielding effectiveness, or absorbing stray microwave energy inside an enclosure, our team can help you find a solution that’s already qualified for your environment, not one you have to test and hope for the best.

EMC Gaskets, Conductive Elastomers & Shielding Metal Products

Our EMC gaskets, conductive elastomers and shielding metal products seal enclosure seams, doors and access panels against RF leakage while maintaining environmental protection. Available in knitted wire mesh, oriented wire-in-elastomer, conductive elastomer and fabric-over-foam constructions, they’re selected against the shielding effectiveness, compression force and environmental sealing your application needs.

Which gasket construction is right for your enclosure?

Knitted wire mesh gaskets offer high shielding effectiveness at low cost for general-purpose sealing. Conductive elastomers combine EMI shielding with environmental sealing in a single gasket, ideal where moisture ingress is also a concern. Oriented wire-in-elastomer gaskets give the highest shielding performance for the most demanding applications. We can help you weigh up shielding effectiveness, compression set, cost and environmental requirements before you commit.

If your enclosure has to keep interference out and stay sealed against the elements, there’s a gasket construction engineered for that.

Our EMC gasket, elastomer & shielding metal partner:

  • Getelec: Shielding materials specialists of 50 years’ standing, supplying electrically conductive elastomer, EMC bi-material corrosion-resistant gaskets and EMC shielding metal products to aerospace, space, defence, telecommunications, medical, marine and automotive markets.
Microwave Absorbers

Reflected or stray microwave energy inside an enclosure or antenna system can be just as disruptive as interference getting in from outside. Our microwave absorbers reduce reflections and standing waves, improving signal integrity across a wide range of frequency bands.

Which frequency band do you need to cover?

Microwave absorber material is selected against the frequency band your application operates in, as well as the attenuation, thickness and mounting constraints of the enclosure or antenna system it’s fitted to. Note for Active Electronics to clarify/confirm: specific absorber series/part numbers to reference.

From L-band to Ka-band, there’s an absorber material engineered for the frequency you’re working with.

Our microwave absorber partner:

  • Getelec: Microwave absorbers covering the K, Ku, Ka, L, S, C and X frequency bands, developed as part of their wider electromagnetic protection range.
Environmental Sealing

A shielded enclosure that lets in moisture, dust or chemical contamination hasn’t solved the whole problem. Our environmental sealing silicone protects housings, seams and access points against high chemical, mechanical and atmospheric stress, often working alongside EMC gaskets in the same enclosure.

Available across a range of silicone formulations, environmental sealing products are selected against the specific chemical, thermal and mechanical stresses your application will face, so the seal holds up for the life of the equipment, not just through initial testing. Note for Active Electronics to clarify/confirm: specific silicone product lines and part numbers, and whether to list Getelec as the named partner here as with the sections above.

A shielded enclosure is only as good as the seal that keeps the environment out of it.

Why Work With Active Electronics
  • Source obsolete or hard-to-find EMC shielding components: saving you time, effort and engineering resource when a part’s gone end-of-life
  • Application engineering support: hands-on guidance from our team, so you specify the right gasket, thermal pad or absorber the first time
  • Access to hundreds of manufacturers worldwide: one point of contact for your entire EMC shielding supply chain
  • Tailored solutions: every enclosure and application is different, so we don’t push a one-size-fits-all product
  • Traceable supply chain: full documentation from source to delivery, so you can evidence compliance to your prime contractor
  • Anti-counterfeit assurance: in-house inspection and verification measures on the components that go into your system, for peace of mind
  • Significant cost savings: through sourcing optimisation and vendor consolidation across your EMC shielding requirements
EMC Shielding FAQs

Our EMC shielding gaskets, thermal pads, microwave absorbers and environmental sealing products are qualified to standards including MIL-STD-461 (EMC), MIL-DTL-83528 (elastomer gaskets) and EN 61000 (generic EMC), with shielding effectiveness tested per methods such as IEEE-STD-299 or MIL-STD-285 where applicable. Note for Active Electronics to clarify/confirm: any additional standards or certifications specific to Getelec’s range.

Conductive elastomer gaskets combine EMI shielding with environmental sealing in one gasket, useful where moisture and dust ingress are also a concern. Knitted wire mesh gaskets offer strong shielding performance at a lower cost where environmental sealing isn’t the primary requirement.

Note for Active Electronics to clarify/confirm: thermal conductivity guidance specific to Getelec’s pad range, once exact part numbers and spec sheets are available.

Our microwave absorbers cover the K, Ku, Ka, L, S, C and X frequency bands, suitable for antenna systems and enclosures operating across this range.
